Here's what our workshop participants say...

Even though I had taken on-line workshops before on the interaction of ISO, Aperture, and Shutter speed, I found that your expert presentation, chance to ask questions, and opportunity to practice with well conceived exercises brought home some photography concepts that I had been struggling with before. There’s nothing like having a supportive teacher at one’s side to bring out the emerging photographer!

You two ladies are terrific. I would highly recommend this “fun”shop to anyone who wants to improve her/his photography skills. I also really liked the setting of Gibson’s Lodging. What a comfortable and attractive place to learn.

Good practical examples and variety of approaches (Shutter v. Aperture) opened new perspectives. Good answers to a wide variety of questions. Instructors displayed an extraordinary depth and breadth of knowledge combined with a rare talent for clear explanations. Looking forward to specialty courses. Liked especially the practical exercises.

I feel that Laurie and Chris explain everything in English instead of explaining everything in a complicated jargon. [What went well at the workshop?] When we actually went outside to shoot. This is because I got to practice everything that was told me. I’m more hands on and going outside allowed me to practice which gave me a greater understanding.

Oh my goodness!! The B&B setting was fabulous! The hands on help at City Dock is such a plus. I think that it [the workshop] was very well done and the two instructors couldn’t have been better!
— Lynann R., June 2013 Workshop
The Workshop was most enjoyable. It met all of my goals to learn about my camera from a technical viewpoint, and apply various techniques to enhance the artistic presentation of my photos. I was impressed by both the understanding demonstrated by both Laurie and Chris of my specific camera and the shooting techniques that could be applied to achieving the best possible pictures. In all, a thoroughly enjoyable and knowledgeable four hours. [What went well at the workshop?] Everything. Very nice welcome at Gibson’s Lodging. Great location for the workshop itself with a separate, comfortable room to work in. Equally great location for opportunities to test our new-found knowledge in the practical session in downtown Annapolis.

Very comfortable atmosphere, and instructors were very personable and tailored the instruction based on members interests.

I totally enjoyed every aspect of the workshop. I thought it was small enough for personal attention. It was informal and comfortable so talking or asking questions in the group was easy. The presentation was excellent and easy to understand.

I was also impressed that we still went out to take pictures even though we were presented with a very cold day.

[What went well...] Flexibility and ability to customize lesson to my and the other student’s level. Willingness to go off topic since both of us wanted/needed the instructions.

It was a lovely way to spend a late morning and early afternoon.”
— Leigh G. September 2013 Butterfly Workshop
The instructors were very knowledgeable and addressed my needs to my great satisfaction. They took the time to give me the personal help that I greatly needed and answered all my questions.
— August 2013 Workshop
[What went well?...] Everything! The presentation and open discussion with the instructors was informative and comfortable. I really enjoyed the hands on activities where I could take the knowledge learned and use my camera with an instructor to help guide me.

This was an excellent workshop! As an intermediate hobbyist photographer who has attended several workshops, this one gave me the individual attention and reinforcement I needed to better understand the importance of how my camera’s settings need to be adjusted to take better photos.

You covered a lot of material and did a fabulous job. This was the most educational workshop I have attended and the handout material was excellent.

I thought the instructors, Chris and Laurie, complemented each other well with their experience and knowledge of photography.

As soon as I get some time, I plan to contact you about taking a one-on-one workshop that would force me to use my camera features. I have a couple of friends in mind that I would “gift” your workshop.

The compositional component reinforced the rules of thumb I got from my daughter when she was in art school a few years back — and fine-tuned those rules with useful and interesting variations ... My favorite shot of the day is the one I took of the yellow basket of flowers, the expanse of strong blue wall, and the red door at the other end. It’s my new screensaver on my laptop.

The instructors really did a super job in this program, listened attentively to each participant’s views and demonstrated a strong personal interest in helping them. The location was excellent.
